Scientific leadership
SEAF recognises that scientific credibility is essential when analytical results may influence regulatory, financial or public decisions. That’s why we treat scientific leadership as a distinct governance function.
Each spoke is supported by a designated scientific lead, nominated by SEAF and appointed by the spoke governing body.
- What analyses are undertaken
- Who participates
- What gets produced
Scientific leads:
- Provide independent advice on methods and models
- Ensure that analytical approaches are fit for purpose
- Oversee validation and quality assurance
- Clarify assumptions, uncertainties and limitations
Scientific leadership is independent of managerial authority. Scientific leads do not control funding or participation decisions. Their authority is confined to scientific and technical matters.
This separation ensures that scientific decisions are insulated from organisational or commercial pressures, while ensuring analytical work remains credible and transparent.
